We at Higbie Maxon Agney are saddened to acknowledge the passing of our founder, Hugo S. Higbie, on this past Saturday, April 14.
After graduating from Williams College in Massachusetts, Hugo S. Higbie entered the real estate business with the firm of Sweeney & Moore. He served as sales manager and officer until 1967. Along with general brokerage, Sweeney & Moore was prominent in the development of many well-known Grosse Pointe subdivisions.
In 1967, Mr. Higbie founded the Higbie Realty Company. He acquired the Maxon Brothers Real Estate Firm in 1972 and renamed the joined firms Higbie Maxon Realtors, Inc.
Mr. Higbie served as Treasurer and President of the Grosse Pointe Brokers Association, was active in the Grosse Pointe Real Estate Exchange, and was a founding member of the current Grosse Pointe Board of REALTORS®.
A longtime Grosse Pointe resident, Mr. Higbie could even recently often be found at the HMA office on The Hill. He continued to share his knowledge and experience with the agents at HMA, the well-respected firm he founded and continued to foster throughout his life.
He will be missed greatly by all of us here.
